We had an excellent time at the Science Center. It was great we got to learn more about Structures as well as Magnetism and Static Electricity!
Thank you so much to Ella's Dad, Ryan, who has volunteered his time to come in and teach us some hockey skills in phys. ed. We have had a blast, learned a lot, and had a good workout. We look forward to your next visit!
Christmas is special time of year where we get to enjoy the tradition of Gift Giving (even better than gift receiving!). Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to give their loved ones a present. We have partnered with a community school (Albert School) to collect items that the children of that school would be able to give to their family at home (siblings, parents, and grandparents) as a Christmas present. We are looking for items for both children and adults.
Gift Ideas:
Items that cannot be accepted are candles, stuffed animals, and clothing. The items can be dropped off in Ms. Nelson’s or Ms. Coffin’s room. We are accepting donations up until Friday December 9th. We ask that these items are in good condition (gently used). Thank you for your generosity, The Respect Ed. Team Constable Sieber, our school resource officer, was in grade 3A today teaching us about General Safety. Students are taking home a Child Find booklet with their finger prints inside! COOL! We are looking forward to having her back on Oct. 27th and 30th to learn about Bullying and Halloween.
Students have two assignments due in Science by Wednesday.
1. Structures and Shapes Handout This is shown in black in my photo. Students had to name 10 different structures they might see in their community and tell me what shape(s) that structure looks like and whether it is a Natural made structure (like a bird's nest) or if it is built by people (like a school), We did the first one together. 2. Homes Now/Then Paragraph Students were given class time to work on this, so whatever they are bringing home is what was not finished during class. We have also talked about this 3 times, and I had written notes on the board to help them. (See picture below). Their job was to write a paragraph (at least 5 sentences) explaining how homes now are built differently than in the past. I wanted them to include the 3 examples we talked about from the past, which were a tipi, a pioneer's home and a castle. This assignment was done on a piece of loose leaf paper. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email or have students ask on Tuesday! Dear Parents,
During the week of October 17-21st MacNeill School will be celebrating "Education Week". Our theme this year is "Celebrating Today, Preparing for Tomorrow". There are a few events from the week that you will want to know about. On Wednesday, October 19th, we would like your child to dress up as their "Future Selfie". How do they see themselves looking in 20 years from now? Are they dressed as a doctor, firefighter, chef, Mother, and so on... On Friday, October 21st, all K-3 students will be reading in the gym from 9:10 - 9:30. Muffins will be served and parents are invited to come read with their child. We are looking forward to a very fun and exciting week!! Today in Science, we used craft sticks and straws to model how posts and beams are used when building the frames of a building. We tested how solid and stable our frames were by placing milk cartons with marbles on top. Of course we know, that real posts and beams are made from wood or steel.
We met our goal today of reading to self for 15 minutes, straight, without getting distracted! Here are some of our star readers...who am I kidding? We are ALL star readers!!!!
Students learned today that Mrs. Eberle is having a baby! Her little one is expected to arrive March 27, 2017. This will be her second child and she is super excited!!
We have been working on building our read to self stamina in grade 3A. So far we are up to 8 minutes! This means we are able to read for 8 minutes straight without becoming distracted. :)
